I guess this could go under any general Chevy forum, but I just bought a 2nd gen Nova that had been sitting for over 20 years. The engine runs great and the transmission shifts well, but it's time for an oil change and I'm scared to put the wrong oil in it. I know that synthetic in old engines can make it leak like crazy, so I won't even attempt that. I was thinking the Valvoline High milage because of the seal conditioners. Would this be a bad idea as well?

You need a 10W30 or 10W40 oil with high zinc/phosphorous, I dont think the High Mileage has the zinc/phosphorous. I use Valvoline VR1 10W30 in the silver bottle.

Thanks Zora, That's a great place to start! I'll start googling. You guys are awesome!

Other options are Delo 400 and Shell Rotella. Both are good oils.

Try Lucas Classic 20/50 it has the correct ZDDP content. I have been using it for a decade now on two flat tappet performance engines.
