I will be driving soon and I have a first car in mind. I come from a car enthusiast family so i want a performance car. I don't much like the newer trans ams and camaros, but my dad requires my first car to have anti lock brakes and airbags. I looked at the early 90s corvettes (which are getting close to my price range) which I'm pretty sure were some of the first sports cars to have those safety features. Now I'm facing the insurance problem. I know my rates will already be high (since I will be a 16 year old male) but I also heard that they base the car insurance on engine size, and performance. The 90s base corvette has about 250HP which is acutally less than the mid 90s trans ams (my second option). If I take some extra defensive driving courses, will that balance out the extra cost of the 'vette being a sports car?(I also heard that being a good student could help and I have a 3.7 G.P.A)
Does anyone think that i could get around this insurance problem?
And please nobody tell me to get a honda or toyota or something like that as it would have no relevance to my question.
