Hello everyone. Lets see if we can figure this out. I recently purchased a 96 Suburban from a family friend. It's a 96 1500 5.7 Vortec with only 112K on it. It has been gargae kept by the original owner since it was purchased. It was their 3rd vehicle so it sat a lot. Over the past 7 years he's only put 20K on it. So here's the problem. He told me he was putting HEET in the tank to keep the fuel from turning and that it sputtered some. I've driven it now through a full tank after putting Lucas gas treatment in the tank and it's still sputtering. When I first drove it from his house it sputtered some then seemed to drive fine other than when you were almost at a coast or feathering the throttle. It is consistent with doing this almost every time i'm trying to hold it at a steady speed whether it's 50, 60, or 70 and seems to do it worse the faster I go. The check engine light is on most of the time, but can go off, and a few times has flashed for about 5 seconds then goes to a steady light. Press the throttle, works fine, let off works fine. What is this? I had the code checked @ AutoZone and they said change the distributor and rotor, they were changed 8,000 miles ago. This guy has done more than all of the service to it. One more thing, when I turn it off I hear, from the passenger side what sounds like an air leak. Thanks for your help! I need it!
