Having a few issues with my 99 K1500. When I bought it I drove 3 hours back home with zero issues. First issue I had after a few days of having it was the battery was draining while sitting. Battery has since been replaced and the issue still exists. Second issue is it cranks but doesn’t start. Cranks like a champ but doesn’t hit for some reason. I’m still learning about these beasts and would love some help. Thanks!

After you replaced the battery did the security light come on solid when trying to start?
Did you check the charging system before replacing the battery?

Didn’t notice the security light. Will check that ASAP. Alternator did get replaced. Pulling correct power when I checked it with a multimeter

If you are sure the battery and alternator are good you need to use your multimeter to test for a parasitic drain.

Did you check for spark? Do you hear the fuel pump for a few seconds when the key is first turned on?

Check for any blown fuses?

Fuses are all good. Haven’t checked spark yet but changing plugs and wires next paycheck so I’ll check then. Did not notice fuel pump engaging, will be checking that soon as well

You never answered the question about the security light?

Haven’t been able to check security light. Just picked up a new battery yesterday. This weekend will be a garage party trying to get the old girl runnin

So this is the second new battery?

So this is the second new battery?
Yes. Will be throwing it in on Saturday. I’ll probably have my buddy bring his code reader by as well to see if it’s throwing any

Similar issue. Alternator was draining battery when vehicle off. Charge battery & unplug alternator, see if battery now holds charge.

Just checked to see if there was a security light and it’s not on. I hear the fuel pump prime but I’m still going to check pressure and change the fuel filter as well

Mine had a notorious crank but no start. It was the security system malfunctioning. Solutions: get a new key
Disconnect battery for ten minutes

word of advice.
If you decide to replace the fuel pump, only use AC delco.

If it started and you were able to get it home, then I wonder why it would give you issues later. We have a similar issue with our '04, and it's definitely the fuel pump. But we've managed to always get it to start by the 2nd or 3rd crank. We crank for a quick second, listen for the fuel pump to stop (yes, even though it's bad, it still runs a spell), crank again, and voila.
