If you don't want or can't use a plug in electric car that runs for 40 miles on electricity before the gas motor kicks in, then don't buy one. If it does suit someone else's needs, why do you care? I even remember Bush pushing the idea.
NOTE: The range of the car is not 40 miles. It runs on electricity for 40 miles until the gas motor kicks in. It's designed that way so you don't have to carry the extra weight of more unneeded battries
