Whining Suburban

I have '99 K1500 Suburban with a 5.7L Vortec that I bought in January. When accelerating or going up hill, it whines loudly as it shifts gears. My transmission guru tells me it may not be the transmission and not to worry about it. However, it's getting worse, i.e., louder. It also now whines continuously - but lower volume - at higher speeds.

Thanks for any ideas on what it could be.

Does it make the noise in park as you slowly increase engine speed?

I just went and tried it. Yes, it does whine in park.

So use an automotive stethoscope or a length of rubber hose and determine the source of the noise.
