Which car is better mechanically 2009 Chevy Malibu LTZ or 2008 Toyota Camry SE?

Im 20 years old and looking to purchase a new car. I was looking at two cars. A 2009 Malubu and 08 Camry. I was told that the Camry would be a better buy seeing as it would last longer and the resale value is a lot higher than the Malibu. I was also told that the Chevy vehicles will probably need a lot of work after 100,000 miles whereas a Camry would need that much because it is made better, good engine. But I've seen that Chevy has been improving their vehicles or at least say they have and I always see old Camrys on the road but not too many Malibus. Which car is a better?
