Timing cover gasket is leaking a little and my engine temp is maxed out when I drive for a few minutes. Then the check gage light comes on and the temp gage goes back down. I am thinking coolant is low. Water pump/ them is new.

Your car should have a low coolant light. Your temp gauge might have a bad sending unit. Is the car overheating? Make sure the engine is cool when you add coolant. Look for a white container under the hood. I think it's on the right side on your car. The cap should say coolant only or something like that. Look for a marking on the side of the container that says "full when cold" and fill it to that level. Check it again after a day or two.
