They like big engines and already have turbo diesels over 6liters making around 350hp they could make a turbo diesel corvette.

The corvette being so light it would be a nice unique sports car.

Good gas mileage in such high geared lightweight vehicle too.

What do you guys think?
All the power of the base mdoel could be made in half the rpms.
They wanted to make one for the audi R8.
copy eroups volkswagen
umm diesel contains more energy then gasoline thats why it has compression ratios over 16.5 and has to be durible enough to withstand the huge bangs making it rev lower

Never in a million years would that happen, even if diesel was the last fossil fuel source in the world. That is the worst idea I have ever heard. Octane for diesels is crap, which is why the corvette has a high-octane (premium only) NATURAL GAS compustible engine that is smaller than a diesel and has a higher output (hp) than a larger than 6 liter diesel engine. Maybe not in the torque area, but if it's a light vehicle that won't matter as much. Besides, one of your perks for the corvette is that it is light, if it had a diesel engine it wouldn't be light anymore.

It's for going fast and having fun, not towing your mobile home...

Well... I would stick with gas because the new high output Corvette which runs on gas, with an LS9, 6.2 litre, V8 engine (Super charged) is putting out 632 horsepower and that seems good enough for me.

You can't argue this point. A gas V8 makes a beautiful sound with the right exhaust. You can not get that sound with a diesel. Won't happen.

GM doesn't have any money. Corvette sales do not make up much of their income. i think any plans for turbo diesel corvette will be put on hold since GM says they don't even have enough cash to make it through the month.

i doubt they will ever do that, they dont have to the car is successful as it is. Most think of diesel for torque not speed thats what the big lure is for diesel trucks. Do that to the Vette and i believe sales will fall tremendously

I think that diesels cannot go fast and go slow because of the way they are. A diesel doesn't rev fast enough to make a sports car.
