Its a new car. I have about 6,000 miles on it so far. Havent done an oil change yet. The oil life indicator say around 50% oil life left. My obvious question is should i listen to the oil life indicator or to the dealer whos says its past due?? (Would prefer information from someone who actually owned a malibu before) or mechanic lol

Richard ,This is what I told Jason: Assuming your oil life monitor is the same as my 08 Malibu, it don't go by miles driven. It looks at engine RPM's and oil temperature to determine oil life. Right now my oil life is at 24% and I have 7400 miles since last oil change. The only reason I've let it go this many miles is that I'm running Mobil1 syn oil. I will be changing oil at 7500. I would suggest that as soon as you get your frist 2000 miles on the factory oil, change to Mobil1 with the Mobil1 oil filter or a K/N oil filter, then go by oil life. I think 7500-10000 miles is enough miles for syn. oil. The biggest problem with Mobil1 oil is that I can only afford the oil if I change it myself. It'll cost a arm and leg the pay someone to change oil with Mobil1. My o8 is the LT2, V-6, 6speed trans. I think with the Mobil1 my milage went up about 10%. I can get up to 32 mgp on highway with no wind. With wind about 28. I live in Oklahoma and the wind can blow. Good luck with the car, you'll love it. My wife and I do ours.
