Does anyone know if a 16" 6 lug wheel from a '95 1/2 ton Suburban will clear the brake calipers on an '09 1/2 ton Suburban equiped with 17" 6 lug wheels? Both are 4 wheel drive.

Do you have more than 1/2 clearance between caliper and inside surface of 17" rim?

Not sure. It's a vehicle I looked at about a week ago that is over 100 miles away. When I got home and started researching tires I discovered the 17's are a lot more expensive than the 16's. I'm looking to put winter tires on and I have two complete sets of 16" wheels from a Chevy truck.

If I don't find a cheaper alternative to the 17's, the deal will probably fall through.

Can you ask the current owner?

Sure but he's not automotive knowledgeable so who knows how accurate his answer would be. The only way in this case to be sure is to see if one of those 16's would clear is to try it unless I can find someone who has tried it already. Figured there might be someone here at this forum who has.

The distance, time, weather, and inconvenience make it somewhat undesirable for me to make a special trip. If it doesn't work, wasted trip, time and a deal that won't work.

For what it's worth Tirerack shows no wheels smaller than 17" for a 2009. Also looking at Firestone Winterforce the 17" is $2 more than the 16".
