im looking into purchasing a 2000 chevy impala that was once a police interceptor, im looking also into buying a 2001 chevy impala but just your basic... im just wondering what the spec differences are engine, shocks, etc.... andy big problems also may be nice to note

you know for sure that the police issue version was very well maintained.
 
The police version is usually worked very hard, fast starts, tight turns, all kinds of weather, HARD BRAKING, and generally not very good maintenance. As much as we'd like to think the police car is well maintained, the fact is it is a fleet vehicle and the goal is to get as much out of it before it is retired as possible. The term rode hard, put away wet means something. Don't buy a retired cruiser. It will nickel and dime you to death! ESPECIALLY a front wheel drive Impala!
