I have a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck. It's automatic. The transmission has gone bad and I am looking to replace it, just wondering what will fit it. My friend is a mechanic and I can help him drop it in. Just wanna know what to get.
A local is selling a turbo 400 for about $300 and I'm pretty sure that would work. Could I also use a 700r and would it be better?
I have switched out the original engine to a more modern vortec from a 97 chevy(still carb though), which delivers more power. So I would like something a little better than just 'stock' but not necessarily on the budget for 'high performance'.
I'm looking to buy something used to save money. What are my options and what can I expect to pay?
