I'm in the process of buying a 1985 Chevy Truck - and the seller is in a small town that's not very close to any garages that I know and trust, so when I go down there to take a closer look at it, I'd like to be able to give the thing a reasonably good look over before I even bother taking it to a mechanic, or go through with buying it.
The truck only has 85,000 miles on it, and looks to be in pretty good condition from the exterior, and the owner says the interior is in great condition.
Anything I should look for in the engine compartment? Axels? Interior? Wiring? Anything I should listen for when it starts up?
What are some easy red flags to spot? What other 'not-so-easy-to-spot' things should I look for?
