making whump whump noises.? We have an 2005 Chevy Eqquinox. Yesterday, when I started the car it started making whump whump noises. Right when I start the car up the noise starts, and then it increases as you accelerate and continues while I'm driving.

The car still drives fine, no stalling or excessive shaking, but the noise is horrendous and very disconcerting. I've never heard the car make noises like this. Does anyone have any idea as to what it could be?

I very scared that it might be something wrong with the engine, since once you start up, that's when the sounds start. I really pray that this is not the case.

this may be tough but look to see if your belts are straight and moving along like they ought to and look at the pulleys to see if they are round and not bent in any way.
start there

look for any loose parts

I agree with Randy. A loose belt or worn tensioner can cause the belt to jump and make one heck of a noise. My first guess would be a faulty belt tensioner.
