Trying to consider getting my son a used chevrolet avalanche?

Is it a good sturdy vehicle? Also, what are we looking at gas mileage wise? I've heard it was underpowered and sluggish, is this true? Is the Z71 package worth it?

It's pretty sturdy there isn't much room in the bed you can expect to get about 15-20 mpg Z71 means it's 4 wheel drive

The avalanche is a wonderful choice for a truck/suv. It is nowhere near underpowered. It's pretty quick for it's size. And I would just go for the Z66 to save on gas because the Z71 is an off road package and people rarely take avalanche's off road anyway.

i have a silverado which has the same motor and several other parts that are the same. you wont find a sturdier vehicle and it is in no way sluggish. the mpg is not very good though. i would hope you would get the z71 package but if you are never going to need 4wd or take it off pavement then it would work for you
