OK. My husband has a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2WD Auto 6 cylinder. The starter went out and after replacing that we find it has a bad PNP switch.
He hates to work on cars and after looking at the new part, I didn't think it looked too hard so I went for it.
I followed the directions. Disconnect battery, apply parking brake & put truck into neutral.
After I took the old one off I put the new one on, but I found I was having trouble getting one bolt to thread. I waited until husband arrived home from work and we worked together to get that last bolt on and then hooked the transmission lever back.
Problem. After hooking the battery back up, it shows that the transmission is in drive. It will go from D,3,2 & 1. I can't get the transmission lever back in place. It's like it some how got too short???
So give me the bad news. Did I just totally screw up my husbands truck or is there a fix for this NEW problem I have created?

I worked on an allison transmission on a 2001 and I had to use a special tool to align the PNP. It was called a J___? tool and not sure where the mechanic got it. I loosen up a nut with a wrench, put on the tool (to align it) and re-tightened the screw. I am positive this is your problem.
