I have a 2001 LT with 83,000 miles with autoride, automatic.

I can start the car, but when I shift the car out of park into any of the gears, the transmission will not engage in any of the gears. It's like the transmission is still in park even though the indicator shows it's in gear. While in neutral, the car will not move. The parking brake is not engaged.

Any ideas?

The first thing that comes to mind is a broken shift linkage. Have you looked at this?

I would crawl underneath and have someone shift it to see if everything is moving properly. Definitely NOT while the engine is running !

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Do you have a check engine light on?

If it's full of fluid and there are no broken linkages, then I'd say your transmission is shot. What ever you do, DO NOT take it to an AAMCO. That stands for all automatics must come out, and you'll get raped like an 18 year old in prison.
