Hi everybody!
Like the post says, time for a newer suburban.(maybe). I am looking at a 2013 LTZ 1500 4x4 or a 2015 LT 1500 2wd.
Looking up reviews for both of them, pretty much about the same. I can go either way with the 4x4. Ive had it before, never used it. My old 2003 burb does not have 4wd, never been a problem
My concern is some issues I read about the AFM(?) The system that turns off a cylinder when power not needed. I've read some horror stories about this and was wondering if anybody here has any experience or issues with this. Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks

EDIT* Wanted to ask also if the general maint on these models is fairly the same as in my '03. I do as much work on my vehicles as I can. Oil changes, brakes etc. Or has the technology gotten so much that us DIY'ers are being put phased out.

I have read the same stories about AFM but cannot comment on whether by the 2013 to 2015 model they got all the bugs worked out. They have started the recommendation of only using Top Tier gasoline's presumably due to additional additives. Knowing the service history of the vehicles you are considering would be highly recommended along with having it checked by your mechanic before purchase. The basics of maintenance compared to your 03 havent really changed that much.

I bought a "range" AFM killer module that plugs into the diag connector under the dash. It stops the AFM from working and engine runs on all 8 all the time. Can be unplugged any time even while driving. Use it on my suburban (2010) and my 2010 Camero.

Sets no codes and does not leave any clues to its use. Will not void warranty.
