I have a 1999 K1500 Suburban with a new engine, new starter, new battery (replaced twice) and still has trouble starting after long drives pulling a trailer of any weight. Haven't tried it without a trailer yet but I have two different trailers and it exhibits the problem with both trailers. It is worse with the heavier trailer so I am assuming it is an issue related to how hard the engine works.

Items running during pictures:
- Front and rear AC with fans on high
- Radio on low
- Vehicle and trailer lights
- No phone charger

The video link below is right after a 1 hour drive pulling a 4500 lb trailer. I know it is bad to start back to back like that but I want to eliminate a dead battery issue.

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. This is my work truck and I need it to be able to pull a trailer and not leave me stranded. Thank you for any advice.

Are the battery cables also new? Do you have the correct size battery for the vehicle? Are your starter cables also new? how hot does the starter get? Do you have any codes?

Good questions. I will check temperatures this week when I tow the trailer again. I want to say all the battery and starter cables were replaced when the engine was replaced last year but I will double check to confirm. I will check the actual temperature of the starter too. No codes are showing up when I check them.

Thank you for the fast response and direction!

Checked the temps on everything. Are these temps normal for a 99 Suburban?

Starter: 200 Degrees
Battery: 110 Degrees

Battery Specs are below. From looking at places to buy batteries it appears to be the right size battery.
Interstate MTP-780T
800 CCA
1000 CA

The ground wire looks new but the positive wire looks like OEM so I am going to have them both replaced to be certain. Hopefully this fixes it.

Thank you for your help!

Any codes? Just wonder if some over temp sensor is shutting down the engine. Maybe the transmission temp sensor. How hot does it get when you tow?

Let us know if the cable replacement worked. If not, does it normally start again after cooling down for a bit?
