Suburban aftermarket replacement radio

Hey everyone,

I've got a question. We just purchased a used 2003 Z71 Suburban and we love it. But it's got a 6 disc changer that doesn't work. My wife is thinking she would rather have a newer double DIN unit that has bluetooth capability and IPOD interface. Normally I wouldn't blink at this sort of install, but this truck has the factory Bose system installed. I've read that it uses a Bose amplifier and 2 ohm speakers. Has anyone ever done an install like this?

I don't mind taking it to an install place, but I just don't want to drop $1000 buying additional hookup stuff to make it work. Just curious if anyone has any input on this. Thanks.

Hey Mark, you could call Crutchfield and talk to a technician about this. They're very helpful and you may be able to find a good deal on what you're looking for there.

If your Bose system is as sophisticated as the one in my wife's Seville, my advice would be to fix rather than replace. I looked at a double DIN too, but in the long run, losing the other features like steering wheel controls, Driver 1&2 presets, Security, etc over-ruled that option. I found a working replacement changer on Ebay for peanuts. The CD in the dash cost $300 to repair. There are also kits you can add that just show a mini-RCA to plug your iPod into. Not sure about bluetooth but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't available too.

Gotta love capitalism. If there's a need, someone will create a solution. Google "add on bluetooth car kit" and see the choices. Personally, I don't want to enable my wife. She needs to be paying attention to traffic, not chatting on the phone
Again, weigh your losses to your gains before you replace the whole unit.
