I have a 1999 suburban 1500 when driving down road and start to turn it seems that the steering goes away for a brief second. This does not do it all the time so it is hard to describe. I dont know if the steering gear box is bad or steering pump. I dont see any leaking fluid. Any help

are you saying hwen you trun the wheel nothing happens? could be the steering pump... it's not frezzing cold or anything is it, because that may have something to do with it

It does it when turning and after driving a few miles down the road. it also does it when cold and warm outside.

Yes you can drive many miles then when I go to turn it seems that there is a brief second it feels like maybe some air in the steering system. I hope that it is not the main steering gearbox. I'm planning on taking it to a shop but they always want to replace all the parts even if they dont need it.

well... you should really look hard for any leaks in the lines, they could do that to you, maybe even try bleeding the lines... If either of those dont work, then I'd go ahead and take it in and see what they say
