Should I keep my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer's 4WD is auto all the time?

When we bought the vehicle the dealer told us to always keep the 4WD in Auto and to only use 4 HI or 4 LO when we needed it. Now my front differential needs to be rebuilt because we kept in Auto all the time and it is hashed. The guy who is fixing it told me to keep it in 2WD all of the time and use Auto only in icy conditions. Of course the original dealer is back tracking now, but what should I be using and why? Thanks to all.

You should run it in 2wd unless conditions are less than favorable for 2wd operation. However, running it in AUTO4wd should not cause the type of damage that was described.
