It's a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 110,000 Miles on it. It's a 89 year old guy that traveled back and forth from Florida to Maine that's why it has so many miles. It's only supposed to be 10,000 miles a year so it's supposed to have 90,000 so it's only 20,000 over. It's in excellent condition on the inside/ non smoker as well. He only wants $2,500?

its sounds like a good deal, but I personally dont like american cars. They dont seem as reliable as most foreign cars such as subaru, toyota etc. They tend to have transmission problems when they get up into the 100,000 mile range. I tend to view american cars as the desposable car, drive it for 100,000 miles, then get a new one. but for 2,500 bucks I you cant go wrong.

Honey, if you like the car, get it.
I always like a car alot before deciding to buy it. These Malibus are fairly dependable, but are known for transmission problems. It may last a few years and that is all you get out of any $2,500 car anyway. Any car will be driveable as long as you don't get the engine hot. Check the water and oil everyday before you drive it. Get it hot, you'll have to park it and walk.
As far as buying a foreign car, they are not any more reliable than American cars with high miles, and they will cost 3 times as much to repair, so remember that Grandpa took your car on road trips, not short trips. High miles is ok in this situation and it should go 50K more miles.

These cars are not that great. Transmission issues (up to $3500.00 repair), a/c control heads go out every year or so($450.00 repair). They have a quirky anti-theft system that gives most people trouble at some time($550.00 repair). They are known for intake manifold leaks ($1000.00 repair)They are good on gas but I would stay away from this car with that many miles. The strut plates on these start to squeak about every 40,000 miles ($750.00 repair).
I bought one of these in 1997 and lemon-lawed it within 6 months after 54 repairs. I see these cars in my dealership daily for repairs of some kind. Stay away from this vehicle.
