Service Light is on my Chevy Cavalier?

I have a 2001 chevy cavalier. Yesterday, when i was driving to work the service light showed up on the dashboard. Today when the light turned on. I heard a clicking sound and saw the headlight flicker and then the service light turns on.

If i start driving with the heardlights on, the service light doesn't come on . Any ideas what the issue might be?

All of the auto part stores I know of can only do a generic code scan of power train codes. I think you will have to go to a mechanic to have your body control module scanned for codes. If I were forced to make a guess here I would think you are having a problem with your daytime running lamps system.

sounds like something is wrong with the alternator. maybe the belt is loose or the voltage regulator is sticking inside the alternator.
