02 z71 with a nagging leak that shows up on front passenger floor after dripping through and around the blower motor housing. I think I've checked everything: cowling, side sealant, air intake....the thing I haven't tried yet is removing the windshield and re sealing. Any one else encounter same? If yes, what was the fix? Thanks for insight. Tony

Are you sure it's a windshield leak?

I had a clogged front A/C evaporator drain and as I drove, especially on long trips, the evaporator box would fill up with water and drain down onto the carpet and soak everything - your description sounds exactly like what I saw.

On mine, in the engine bay on the firewall. Passenger side, about where your feet would be but on the engine side there is a black rubber/plastic L-shaped tube that drains the evap when as it collects condensation from inside the car.

Not sure it's windshield...but That's one of the things I checked...and it came out clean and clear. Also, after a rain. There is a puddle on my floor mat....a plastic tray style was worth ev penny considering.

Thanks for the thought but.....I'd love more ideas!

Did some more research - seems like this is not that uncommon of a problem. Most of the people who were posting said that it did take them awhile to track the problem down.

The fixes ranged from reseating the windshield, evaporator box leaking because of drain clogged, bad heater cores leaking, wire harness leaks through the firewall, door seals leaking and running onto the floor boards, one guy even said his was leaking down through the air inlet vent for the A/C, etc.

It looks like you're going to have to keep up the fight on this one.

I had an idea to rule out the windshield - take some clear packing tape - the 3" kind and go around the windshield with a line of that over the rubber seal. If that stops the leak then you know it's coming from the WS, otherwise it will be telling you to look elsewhere.

You may have to clean up a little left over adhesive but that shouldn't be too hard.

have you done any testing using a helper with a waterhose. Spray one area at a time while you check for water leak.

Hey Spriteman, Zora - I've done the painters tape all around, taken off the plastic cowling grill, layed on my back with my feet in the air while a helper sprays just at the firewall, just at the bottom of the windshield on left, then right, sprays only on the side of the windshield with door closed, just over the windshield with water running down only right side, then left, backed up and included the roof rack in the spray and runoff-fest. All to no results. Then, that night it rains and I've got a puddle in my mat on the floor in the morning.

Yesterday, I saw a woman getting out of her suburban (another white z71) going into the grocery store - guess what she was doing? taking her right side factory carpet mat out and draping it over her running board. Why? we had a spat of rain and her trucked leaked - and has been for a long time she said and no one can figure it out.

I am almost at the point where a R&R of the dash will allow me to see it coming in from somewhere…it definelty flows in from high up brecause it runs around behind my glove box and down into the fan motor housing, then drips down from the fan onto the floor.

have you checked for Chevrolet service bulletins on the problem?

Thank goodness no…Can you imagine? It would leak like a colander!
