I have a 2001 Suburban 1500 4X4 and the front right axle seal is leaking differential gear oil. How hard is it to repalce this seal. I have a manual and it call for removing the right half axle assembly like separating the differential by taking the bolts out. Is there anything I need to remember to do before I disassemble this thing. Does anyone have a drawing of what I will be seeing? Your help is appreciated.

have you had the engine changed recently mechanics tend to pound on the half shafts to drop them out ether wise its just junk it happens the seals like 4 bucks if you know how to fix it.

i also have the same question but mine is a 1997... im sure the diffs are the same. it looks to me the shaft is fairly easy to remove but id like to know if the seal can be changed without geting into the guts of the diff.
