Restoring 74 Chevy Nova?

I have decided to buy a 74 Chevy Nova. I found one locally for $2,000. It has the factory 6 cylinder and 3 speed tranny. I would like to make a mediocre show car out of is. I am trying to decided whether to put in a 355 or 383 stoker. What are some pros and cons of either. I am also taking suggestions on what color to paint it.

My brother seems to think that you should put a big block 454 in your nova. Also I think you should paint it red with black racing strips.
