I have an 89 Chevy k1500 one day out of the blue it started making rattling noise on acceleration took the valve covers off didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Also does not do it if you are in park sitting still you can rev it an no noise sounds good seems to be only under a load at operating temperature

How many miles on the engine?
Which engine?
Did it start after filling with gasoline?

Miles are unknown odometer doesn't work prior owner swapped motor and trans they didn't know exactly what they were doing cut wires that didn't need cut. It's got the 5.7 V8 got everything working except odometer and oil pressure gauge, with that being said will be hooking up aftermarket oil pressure gauge today.

So based on the limited information provided, it is still unclear whether you are referring to a rattling noise caused by detonation associated with carbon build up or bad gas versus a rod knock.

Doesn't seem to be a rod knock, sounds like it is in the top end, did hook up oil gauge it has 50 psi cold an warmed up an in gear little under 20 psi
