I recently purchased a 2005 Malibu. The car is in good shape, but the CD player doesn't work. I have a new radio I will be buying (actually, a used radio that is the same as mine), but it has to be programmed. Do I have to go to a Chevy dealer to have that done or is there another way? The dealer cost for reprogramming is more than the radio!

Buy an aftermarket radio or shop around and pay any GM dealer to reprogram the factory radio.

Will an aftermarket radio handle all of the functions of the current radio? For instance, the remote start is done through the radio, as well as the trip computer and oil life stuff. Which radio would you suggest?

look at www.crutchfield.com and in addition to the radio you will need what ever components they recommend to permit the functioning of your other features
