i recently bought a 1972 chevy nova 4 door. i have never seen a nova with 4 doors but anyways i bought it. well im trying to figure out the horsepower of this car. this is all i know. its a 72 chevy nova 4 door, v6, straight six (whatever that means) and it has a Big Block. i cant find the horsepower for this precise car, can i get some help????!!

also another question, being a 4 door, if i fix up the nova like really well and make it faster, does the value of the car go up or since its a 4 door itd be a waste of money??!
this is what the engine looks like

Even if you dump a ton of money into it, the value will only go so high.
That doesn't mean you can't have some fun with it. It can make a really nice hot rod if you do it right. A straight six means that all 6 cylinders are in one line. A V-8 has two sets of 4 cylinders. A V-6 has two sets of 3 cylinders. You need to pick up a repair manual to learn more about this car, or just visit the local library. They usually have Chilton repair manuals you can look at and learn about the car, and also decode the VIN number. If it was my car, I'd put in either a 305 V8 or a 350 V8 engine.

It would make a real nice hot rod. That is about it. If it is the original engine in it you have a straight six if the distributor is on the passenger side about half way down from the top of the engine and about in the middle front to back. If the distributor is at the back of the engine on top it is a V8. Either one will fit right in so it is possible the car came with a 6 and has had a V8 installed. It could even have a 4.3 V6 as these fit right in also. I have no idea how much it would ever be worth but it would make a nice hot rod. Put a 454 450hp in it and enjoy it.

You must have 3 engines under the hood :} Seriously, the car probably has the straight 6, meaning it has 6 cylinders all in one line or row, instead of a V6 which has the V shape like a V8 motor does. You can't have a big block - that is a V8 only. For the horsepower, someone will be able to tell you or go to an auto parts store at the worst. The value will not go up no matter what you do to it
