is wrong? How can it be fi? My granddaughter in trying to get out of the back seat of my 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500, accidentally snapped the handle. The handle itself seems fine, but the door absolutely will not open or even budge. I checked the manual, but could not find any suggestion that would help. Is it possible she may have tripped some sort of safety device or blew some sort of fuse meant for safety.? When this happened the car was parked in the driveway and the engine was turned-off.

Is it a regular door or a suicide door? That will probably make a difference.

If it's a regular door than the child safety device might have been turned on and that would be why the handle broke off. If the child safety device was off than there is probably a stretched or worn bushing inside the handle mechanism that isn't functioning properly. I would pull the door panel off and make sure all the steel rods and plastic bushings are still attached where they should be and moving freely.

If it is a suicide door, there probably isn't a child safety device but the same can be done to troubleshoot the problem, pull the door panel off and make sure everything looks good.

If you can't find anything wrong from your perspective, take it to the dealership or your chosen mechanic.
