So I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 Liter 4wd I bought from my dad when he bought his new truck. Its been a great truck so far but I have had a few recent issues pop up.
#1 Low oil pressure.
I ordered a new Oil Pressure Sensor with filter and changed the sensor but I DID NOT reinstall the new filter because there wasnt a filter below the original oil pressure sensor.
Trust me, I checked. I bought a neat Klein Borescope tool for $40 off Amazon that inserts into my android phone so I could check to see what was down there. I had read on a forum somewhere that the 6.0 Liter didnt have an oil pressure sensor filter below the sensor. I wanted to check and make sure before I put everything back together that was at least installing everything correctly.
After installation I took the truck for a drive to the store just down the road to see if the oil pressure issue had been fixed. Low pressure on the way to store but the pressure was reading better (40 plus) on the way back. Not sure why it wasnt reading better before, but if it had only been a faulty oil pressure sensor then swapping the sensor should have fixed the problem immediately.
This makes me believe the pressure issue may have more to do with oil pump or may be a filter issue. Every retailer seems to sell the smaller filter sizes for the truck but Im not at all confident that the small filters are actually capable of keeping the oil clean over 3 to 5,000 miles for a truck that large. Ive used larger filters for smaller engines, so thats why I question the idea of such a small filter for such a big engine.
I keep reading that they used to make a PF59 oil filter which is the longer oil filter but they dont make those anymore.
Ive also been looking into different filter sizes and have been trying to find a filter that is compatible but longer than the small filters available at Walmart because I think this will ensure that there is more surface area for the filter to trap sludge, etc.
If anyone has ideas or info or suggestions Im open to them. Thanks.
