I replaced the radiator in my Suburban (5.7 L, 4 WD) today, but had a terrible time removing the upper oil cooler line. The line is all metal and I wondered two things: is an all metal line unusual? It seems most oil cooler lines are rubber with metal ends...would replacement lines be made of rubber?
And two: can these metal lines be repaired rather than replaced? Can I cut the line, put on a new connector, flange the end of the line, and be on my way? Or must I replace the entire thing? This is my work truck and I really need to get it back on the road. Rapid replies are appreciated!

If the line is long enough and you have a flaring tool, then cutting it, replacing the nut and flaring it should not cause any problems.

I don't think oil and rubber play well together. You could try to re-flare it but you would be better off with a new or salvage line.
