Odometer not working

Sent cluster to 'Repair My Cluster', they rebuilt it and sent it back - same problem: mileage briefly appears when turning ignition ON, then reads "ERROR". All other instruments OK, car runs fine. Initial mileage reading doesn't change after driving.

Error codes only indicate for catalyzer issues.

Suggestions?
 
Did you contract the repair service and ask them?
Does the speedometer work?
 
The speedometer has always worked fine. The odometer doesn't. Yes, I included a note with the cluster mentioning the odometer.

I just learned that odometer data is stored in the Body Control Module. Do you suggest I replace that or replace the VSS?

Ordered VSS today, will try that next.

Okay, replaced the VSS, no change. Odometer still shows old mileage momentarily, then ERROR. Mileage doesn't change.

The company that rebuilt the cluster said the BCM controls the odometer, so
Am getting ready to replace the BCM. Do I need to reprogram the BCM or take it to a dealer? Or can I self program it by simply installing it?

As usual, thanks for your help.
 
From what I have seen you need the dealer to match the BCM to your car.
 
Anyone know where the BCM is on an 02 Cavalier?

According to online search, new BCM doesn't need to be programmed/flashed.

No idea what to do next if BCM doesn't fix it....
