So, tried to shift into 4WD and the 4WD does not lock in. The transfer case shifts correctly from high to low, I guess that's completely manual, but there is no indicator light on the shifter console and the 4WD does not engage. I checked the fuse panel -- the fuse 24 is OK. The t-case fuse (#2) is missing. I notice there is a slot for the #2 fuse, but there are no connectors in the holes. No fuse goes there -- must have been a design change somewhere along the line. What's up with that?

Couple of possibilities I suppose: bad switch, frozen actuator, broken wire?? Any wisdom from the Suburban people?

what year and version is your vehicle?

1995 - Version ?? not sure what you're talking about??

try unplugging the actuator in the front with someone in the vehicle placing it into 4WD. Use a test light to see if the actuator is getting a signal.

Will give that a try. It's zero out today with 3" snow on the ground. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow :o)

Well, it's not "zero" today, but it will be soon so am continuing my search for 4WD:rolleyes:. Today I have pulled the actuator plugs where they are attached to the axle. There are two, one with: 1) two prongs, and 2) one with four. The one with two prongs has power when the floor lever is in the 4WD position (hi or low) and is not powered when in neutral or 2WD position. That sounds positive?? At least there is power to that point.

So, why no 4WD? Need a new actuator motor??

So, replaced the thermal actuator with a Dorman 600-101 mechanical actuator. The wiring harness also had to be replaced for this actuator upgrade. Used a Dorman 600-600 -- both from Autozone. Installation was straightforward and the 4WD now engages perfectly.

glad to hear you got it resolved just almost in time for more snow
