I would like to buy new black rims for my 2013 Tahoe. I have spoke to my mechanic and he said to be careful and NOT to go through Tire Rack for rims. He has had many people come to him with rim issues. Can someone help me to purchase good rims from either a reputable company or directly from original Chevy dealer.

1,000's of people have bought from Tirerack so I would say your mechanic is the exception.
Are you trying to buy Chevy rims or aftermarket?
