Hope everyone had a good Christmas.
2003 suburban 2wd 5.3 reg fuel. Fuel pump went out a couple days ago. I have the tank off and the new pump already.
The new pump came with a pig tail that I am supposed to wire into the 4 prong connection.
Both old and new pump have a 3 prong and 4 prong connector.
The new fuel pump is exactly the same as the old as far as wiring connectors. I'm confused...why would I replace the connection with a new pig tail if the new pump will take what is already there? Hope this makes sense. I plan to reinstall in the morning.
thanks in advance.

the manufacturer must have a reason but without knowing what you bought, what make is the pump and what is the part number, cannt give you any other information.

The pump is a Precision brand. It matched exactly what I have. There were like 12 different wiring diagrams that came with it. My specific diagram did not need to be spliced in, it was a direct fit.
The manufacturer called me back this morning and said that the reason this pigtail is included is because some original connections are square shaped, the replacements is more oval.
I plugged it in and all is well now. Got the 'ol burban going.

glad to hear it solved your problem
