I recently purchased an immaculately maintained 89 Chevy Suburban with.the TBI 350. Everything is almost perfect with the truck though on the drive home the service engine light came on. After a little research and a paper clip I got the code 32 (or was it 23) that states the mas air sensor did not see the egr move. So I looked at it and noticed a bolt was missing. I pulled it off and sure enough vacuum leak. Well I went to auto zone and purchased their replacement and installed it. Now on the drive from salt lake to rock springs I got roughly 17 mogul. Now with this new egr I only get about 11-14 depending on how much highway I'm on. Did I get a faulty egr? Because I am still under the impression that it helps on long drives and it has only hurt me. Thanks in Advance.

Not all EGR valves are calibrated correctly. Take that junk one you got from Autozone back, get a refund and go to a stealership and purchase a genuine AC/Delco for your vehicle. You get what you pay for.

I would monitor my mileage a little longer. It's hard to imagine an EGR valve causing an 18-35% increase in fuel consumption.
