So in about a year, my grandmother wants to give me a 1964 Chevy Nova SS that belonged to my grandfather. I really want to fix it up, but my mom (I am only 15) doesn't want it to sit in the garage not working, and the car hasn't run in about 10ish years. Can anyone tell me what the car will most likely need to run again? There were no problems with the car prior to its cease to run. My grandfather just lost interest in working on it, and didn't need to drive it as he was a pastor of a southern church and lived on church property.
Need to get this guy running...

You have to drain and replace all fluids, engine oil and filter, transmission fluid and filter, gasoline and filter, brake fluid, engine coolant, rear end fluid. Need to have battery load tested. After all fluids are changed, prime engine and then try starting it.
I agree with Zora. Once you get it started, you'll probably need to go through the brake system and replace the wheel cylinders, too. Flush the brake lines and put in all new fluid. You MAY even have to replace the master cylinder. Sitting is very detrimental to a vehicle. Seals dry up and rust forms. Don't be surprised if you have to replace the gas tank and fuel lines either. I'm not saying you will, but those are possibilities you need to be aware of.

When starting it, make sure you spray a little carb cleaner and starting fluid inside the carburetor intake. I started with a 71 Cutlass at 15 yo as well...cool classics.
