my 1998 chevy malibu has grinding front brakes!?

my car has grinding front brakes, so I know the pads need replacing, but now my husband said when he backed the car out of the garage it was tight, like it was stuck, and it made a loud thump noise when he moved it back into the garage later, is this also associated with the brakes, like rotors, calipers, etc or does anyone have any ideas?

by the way, once it was grinding I STOPPED driving it!!! It has been sitting in the garage for 2 weeks!!

yep. when your pads got wore down, there is a rivet that attaches the pad to the metal part of the pad. if the pad is ground down to the rivet , when you hit the breaks it's Metal against metal. when you put it in the garage the metal on metal actually welded together. the thump was the weld breaking loose when he was backing up. it was stuck because it was welded together. you will need new rotors, and break pads...soon.

You want a serious answer but are not taking grinding brakes
very seriously. ?

Have it towed to a shop and repaired. You've already cost yourself
a lot of extra money by waiting.

Chances are the brake pad has now lodged itself into the rotor.
or at least part of the brake pad anyway..

So there's my answer for you.... Jeez....( Sorry, for the attitude but
isn't grinding a big enough sign for you )
