Engine had a very loud knocking sound and check engine light was on continuously. I headed home and got about a mile from the house and the check engine light started blinking, stopped and knocking sound was gone, got car in drive way and engine light was off and knocking sound was gone. Started car next morning and no knocking and no check engine light was on, any ideas?

have the history scanned for the code

I think there are a few years of 5.7 that had piston slap cold " too short a piston skirt " . One of the truck sites had a big thread on it .

I had some carbon break loose and cause knocking in a 3.8. Went away and never came back.

I had something like this to happen, was on super hwy running 70ish and had to slam on brakes to keep from hitting car in rear, after got up to speed crusing around 70 up a slight grade I herd a rilly loud sound that sounded just like a 18wheeler using a compression release to break, I looked all around (no truck) I had crossed a bridge so I thought the truck was under the brige a little father down the road (70ish) it did it again and several other times, I noticed when I let off the gas it stoped, so I drove another hour and half no other big problems, the service soon light has been on for 3 or 4 months, when I got in my street I openened it up, and it didn't blow so I guess nothing real bad, anyone else have this problem, when it cranks in the morning it sounds like a new motor, I had been driving for 3 hrs, any ideas, 03 vorteck small v8 325ish I was told

my 03 vorteck sounded like a 18 wheeler ,using a compression reliease to break, it was loud,

why would you drive around for 3 or 4 months with the service engine soon light on? It's there to warn you about potential problems that may become costly if you ignore them. Autozone does scans for free.
