Is it my heater core? 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 3.4 smells like coolant w/ A/C

extremely bad w/ heater.? There is not any signs of moisture inside the vehicle just the horrid antifreeze smell.
The carpet is not wet at all. I have even pulled up the carpet to check for moisture. No steam or wetness comes from the vents either. I have been having this problem since last winter. It's coming on winter again & I figure I should get it fixed.
 
the smell doesn't mean its the heater core. I was smelling the same thing for months then my water pump went out. so you might need to be checking around on everything.
 
Don't know if you had it fixed yet. If your windows fog up bad in the morning it's your heater core.
 
more than likely yes if you are smelling it inside the vehicle.i had a 98 s-10 and also smelled it really bad so bad it would burn my eyes with the heat on.i did not have any moisture in the vents or wet carpet either.i removed the dash to access the heater core and sure enough it was seeping out of the seam on the core itself.not enough to see outside of the heater core box.if you have to replace it i would recommend having it done by a reputable shop due to being a big job unless you have experience with this type of work.i am a 20 year veteran mechanic and did it myself.the labor guide called for 9 hours and i did it in 4.but that will make it expensive due to so many labor hours required.hope this helps.
 
Buy a Haynes or chitons manual.take your time,it will seem overwhelming at first,you have to remove everything but the steering wheel,just about,but its not as bad as you'll think.watch what your doing,I take pics. Here &there, can come in handy when you start putting back together.took me about four hours in 10 degree weather.let me know if you get stumped.get it done you'll save a bundle doing it yourself & feel good about it.good luck!
