I have a 97 Suburban 4x4 5.7. The starter was dragging so was time for new battery I thought. Replaced with OEM spec batt but still had same problem. Truck has 230,000 miles on it so I decided to replace starter and when I did it had a burnt smell. It is equipped with the large starter not the high output starter. Anyway still had same issue so I pulled all wires and replaced ends. Problem solved for about a week. I've noticed the problem happens in the morning after a rain or heavy dew. Once truck is started and drivin for 15 min or so has no issues after that. Also it has a hesitation when it is raining to the point it has died when leaving a stop sign. Any idea of were to start tracking this problem? Thanks for any input Heath

have you had the alternator output checked?
have you check the batter ground connection for corrosion?
how old are the spark plug wires?
assuming the 97 has cap and rotor, how old are they?

Replaced all cable ends I will have to check with previous owner about wires and plugs. By looking at them don't look very old.
