service 4wd light isn't on.? I have a 2002 chevy avalanche with 200,000 miles. The truck has rarely been put in 4wd throughout its 7 year life. When I was given the truck by my dad a few months ago, the service 4wd light WAS on. I had a mechanic trace the short to the front axle actuator. I then replaced the actuator and the light went out. I assumed this meant that it worked again. It was icy and snowy a few days ago and I tried engaging the auto 4wd, but on the electric switch, when I pushed auto, the LED light simply blinked and blinked until I finally gave up and pressed 2wd again, at which time it blinked a few times then turned solid on 2WD. The same occurred when I tried engaging 4wd high. Any ideas of why the 4wd wont engage will be appreciated. I'm looking for directions on where and how to troubleshoot this problem. I've contacted the stealership and a few auto places, but I'm not getting any good answers. . .they're all saying "bring it down." Unfortunately, I'm a college student and "bringing it down" costs between $85-$105 an hour, so no thanks. Hopefully one of you will have a better answer.
