...truck which is a 2005 Chevy Avalanche? It has a 5.3l V-8. I was thinking this because i drove my dads truck which is a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2005 with the Durmax and Allison. Money is not a problem I just need to know the draw backs and cost and what needs replaced.

it would be cheaper and easier to get a 3/4ton avalanche with the diesel from the factory. and i have seen them not common but they are around

to convert your truck your talking about swapping engine tranny entire fuel system computer system new mounts for engine and tranny and possibly axles due to the torque diesels generate. also new exhuast system. probably bigger radiator.

It sounds like you are asking about an engine swap, gas to diesel. It would be cheaper to trade your truck on a new diesel model.

To replace the engine you would need all new fuel system, tank and lines. New computer and wiring, and engine mounts. New exhaust and accessory mounts, etc. And a lot of hard dirty work. You could easily spend over $10,000 on a conversion.

If money is really not a problem, buy a diesel truck and keep both, or sell the one you don't like.
