A 65 model, has a rod between the brake pedal and master cylinder. Pull the master cylinder, and adjust the rod to where it will be shorter. Normally that would not be the case, but , sometimes when the brakes are getting worn, some one may have adjusted it out to make the brake petal come up farther. Once you got new brake pads, it made the rod to long for the new pads.
