when the car is in park and i rev the engine it doesnt its only when i acclerate n im in drive. it sounds like it is coming from my exaust but im not sure. please reply if u have any idea what it may be.

well you could have a vacuum line leaking or the torque converter can whine in some cars. don't think it is the exhaust bing you have to have the transmission in n/drive ..

If it's a automatic, check the vacuum line and modulator on transmission. Will be on out side of trans.Common to have either of those leak and whistle.

you might check under the dash it could be a heater control vaccum line or sometimes they sound like there here and will be there, if you know what i mean?

It sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere on the engine, these old cars used to have a modulator valve that controlled shifting on the automatic trans too. there is a vacumn line that usually would come from the intake and go down to this valve on the trans, make sure that vacumn line isn't cracked or broke. If by chance it doesn't seem to shift properly, that's usually the cause! also, make sure the carburetor base gasket is tight. Spray a little either at and around the base of the carburetor, just a little bit now if it speeds up, change your base gasket. Good Luck!
