i have a 1990 chevy silverado 1500?

and it smokes really bad and oil is getting on the spark plugs and my dads friend told me that the carberator might be stopped up with oil would that make it smoke bad it only has 58000 miles on it

1 1990 iis fuel injected no carb..so dads friend know squat
2 bad oil rings and bad valve seals causes oil to get into combustion chamber...

Check the compression. If it is good, check the oil drain backs in the heads. Get yourself a Haynes book that covers it and follow the trouble shooting instructions.
