...1999 chevy malibu? I just bought custom gauges a little while ago.. and basically its a faceplate peel off.. u pull off your stock face plate and put the new one on. Well the new one is a light up gauge that doesnt not use the bulbs behind it for light and u must connect the pwer sources from the bulbs into you custom gauge. I need the wiring diagram so i can see which wire is from what. That way im not pulling wires that i shouldnt be.

I would rather not go out and buy a book, but if i so have to i will.

Ask your local dealer ship parts department if they can print out the schematic for your dash, that's what i would do.
